The questions that come up mid-session
Ninety seconds of rest is about how long each of these takes to read. Filter them by what you are actually wondering about.
Which bench should I buy first?
The 827 lb adjustable. It lands 98% built, folds to roughly 31 by 13 inches, weighs 23 lb and covers flat, incline, decline and seated work — which is most of a first year of training. Go straight to the 1,100 lb press-stand model if you already press over 225 lb, or to the extended-backrest version if you are over six feet.
What does the tested capacity number actually mean?
It is the load the frame held in an independent static test, with the pad at its strongest angle. It exists to give you margin, not a target. Read it beside the max user weight: an 827 lb frame rated for a 330 lb user is designed around your bodyweight plus a loaded bar, with headroom left for a rep that comes down crooked.
Why is one set quoted at 1,980 lb when the bench is 880 lb?
Because multi-station frames are rated per station and the headline is the sum: 880 lb through the bench, 660 lb through the squat rack, 440 lb through the leg frame. Compare the station you will load hardest rather than the total.
Do I need a rack as well as a bench?
Not for flat pressing if you choose a bench with a press stand — the uprights are welded into the same frame. For squats, overhead work, or anything you want catches underneath, an 83-inch upright with 16.5-inch safety arms is the honest answer.
Will any of this fit an apartment?
Most of it. Folding benches go under a bed, the stepper folds to 1.6 square feet, and one adjustable dumbbell pair replaces a rack of fixed weights. The piece to think hard about is a full cage — measure the lowest point of the ceiling before anything else.
How much ceiling do I need for a rack?
The frame is 83 inches fixed, so allow that plus your reach hanging from the bar — about eight feet of clear height is comfortable. In a basement, measure at the lowest pipe rather than at the ceiling itself.
How long does assembly take?
Five seconds and two pins on the 98% pre-built bench. About twenty minutes over six steps on the commercial bench. Roughly a minute for the tool-free 6-in-1 press set, fifteen minutes for a dumbbell rack, eighteen minutes for a stepper, and about two hours for the nine-station cage with two or three people.
Do I need my own tools?
No. Tools ship with anything that needs them, and the entry bench needs none at all. What you do need is patience with the sequence: leave every bolt finger-tight until the frame is square, then torque it down.
Can one person build a rack?
A squat stand, yes. A full cage is a two-person job — not because it is complicated, but because the uprights are heavy and want holding vertical while the cross members go in.
My rack rocks slightly. Is it faulty?
Almost always it was tightened before it was squared. Loosen the base bolts, level the frame, re-tighten in sequence from the centre out. If the floor itself is uneven, the levelling feet cover a few millimetres and a mat covers the rest.
Where do prices and stock come from?
Both live with the partner store. We publish the price we last read from the listing, which is why every card says so underneath it; the buy stamp takes you to the live figure. A catalogue page and a live price never stay in step for long.
How does the warranty work?
Five years on the frame, ten on the Olympic set's frame and components. Claims run through the store that took the payment — raise it on that order and the replacement part is dispatched from there. Wear items such as upholstery, foam and cables are covered against defects rather than against use.
Something is missing from the box.
Raise it on the order first, because that is where a replacement is actually sent from. Tell us the part number as well if you like — that is how a packing list gets corrected for the next production run.
How do I look after the upholstery?
Wipe the PU down after each session and keep the bench out of direct sun. Sweat left to dry on a pad overnight is what cracks it; the pressing never does.
Are the owner quotes on this site real?
Yes — every one is lifted word for word from published buyer feedback on the product listing. We choose which are useful and we do not edit the wording, which is why some of them end mid-sentence.
